“Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies.”
Groucho Marx
It’s been a long summer and a testing one for the creative juices. Firstly, the T&A started trying to charge for the content they get fed for free by the Council PR Department; they used to call this journalism but now we call it cut, paste and deny.
Secondly, good old Comical Alex (Lab – Windhill & Wrose) has been strangely mute most of the summer. But not anymore folks because he’s back and about to start blowing your money on more daft schemes to soothe the masses.
The T&A announced: New 20mph speed limits will be rolled out across Bradford City Centre next month. The policy was approved by Bradford Council bosses earlier this year, who said it would support the regeneration of the city centre by making it a safer place to walk and cycle. The roll out is expected to cost £120,000. Main roads including Manchester Road, Leeds Road and Hall Ings would be excluded from the plans.
As it seems will most of the race track circumventing the city centre. The VW drivers will still be able to get into the city centre at speed, emphasising the Council’s commitment to high speed transport connections. Truly a Northern Powerhouse initiative?
Still, if Comical can walk safely to City Hall then what’s £120,000 for a bit of paint and a few signs that nobody will read to add to the millions already blown on cycle lanes with more snails than cyclists? This is what you get when people who have not had any real commercial experience get elected by the dopey voters.
Comical was ready with a quote as ever, doubtless checked and double checked by the Politburo. He said: “Twenty mile per hour zones are a proven way of making our roads safer and…will help make it a safer and more attractive place for pedestrians and cyclists as well as making it generally more inviting to live, work and visit…”
I had a nightmare the other night. Corbyn was in Number 10, Abbott was Chancellor and Comical was Home Secretary. I need stronger sleeping pills.

I saw this on Facebook the other day and welcome the clarity. Of course the law is always an ass when being interpreted/flouted by an ass…of which there are many in my hometown. It seems that it has become the aim of certain people to recreate the Blitz. And don’t blame the police, we simply don’t have enough of them.
It is down to having a minimum level of brain cells and respect for other people. Morons who start a fireworks display just when normal people are trying to sleep are beyond any reasonable law; for they are truly assholes.
Trumpit News
News that will send shockwaves through the press barons…The Trumpit is increasing its print run once again. Rupert Murdoch was said to be inconsolable: “These Poms are taking over Idle & Thackley!”
The secretive Barclay brothers, owners of the Telegraph Group were considering a bid for The Trumpit. Whereas, the local Bradford Telegraph & Argus claimed it unfair that The Trumpit would actually be publishing real news.
Seriously, a sincere thank you to our loyal advertisers, readers and generous supporters.
Is It Me?
Driving away after cricket practice the other night, I came across a young lad who we’d not seen this summer, having been a junior for many years; so I stopped for a quick catch-up. Aged barely seventeen, he said he was taking a couple of years off to revise which struck me as somewhat sad and lacking in balance. Doubtless he will go on to university for more revising and a debt mountain many times the cost of my first house.
The following day I called in at our trophy suppliers ahead of the junior presentation. The owner was lamenting the relentless shrinking of amateur sport, not least football, even with its year-round presence. Even the local golf club was struggling to attract core members, waiting lists a distant memory. As he put it “people don’t want to compete any more” alluding also to a preference to pay and play via an new Uber style offering.
Of course, society changes relentlessly but don’t even start to convince me that the two examples above represent progression. Or perhaps it is me.
